About Dr. Lipscomb and his journey with sleep

Dr. Lipscomb is a Richmond, VA native and graduated from VCU for both undergrad and Dental school.  In the years after school, Dr. Lipscomb practiced in Fredericksburg, VA starting in 2003, opened an office in the Shockoe Slip area of Richmond in 2007, and opened Brush Up Dental in January of 2016.   An avid learner, Dr. Lipscomb has taken over 1000 hours of continuing education in multiple areas of dentistry including Dental Implants, Dental Sleep Apnea, Orthodontics, computer imaging and even 3D printing.   Dr Lipscomb was awarded a Fellowship from the International College of Oral Implantologists in 2006 after completing extensive training in the discipline.     Family still reigns supreme with Dr. Lipscomb and he will happily tell you about his two children and loving wife.

Doctor Lipscomb became involved in the emerging field of dental sleep apnea in 2008.  Since then he has completed over 100 hours of dental education in the field and treated many people just like you.   Dentists like Dr. Lipscomb have the special distinction to look past the teeth and see the other signs and symptoms that could effect overall health and wellbeing.   Dr. Lipscomb often finds the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, every day.   These are often people who have gone untreated for the condition.   Screening is one of the most important functions for dentists, who often see their patients on a much more regular basis than medical doctors.  It is that extra step that sets Dr. Lipscomb apart.

Dr. Lipscomb’s involvement in sleep does not stop at the screening process.   Dr. Lipscomb is also on the front line of treating obstructive sleep apnea by offering oral appliance therapy.   Dental appliances can be used to help open up the obstructed airway and allow for normal night time breathing.   These appliances can be offered as an alternative to other treatments like CPAP, or used in tandem with them to increase their efficacy.

Dr. Lipscomb recognizes the importance of these treatments, because he has suffered from sleep disorders for many years, and is excited at the answers that have been presented!
